Economics 421

Today's
Wall Street Journal has a long
article on Fed chairman Alan Greenspan. The front-page article
extends to the entire page 15. It is a rather detailed (for a
daily newspaper) assessment of Greenspan's 17 year tenure as the Fed
chairman: From the stock market
crash of October 19, 1987, that almost coincided with his
appointment as Fed Chairman; to the soft landing of 1994; to the 1996 New Economy;
and the 1998 Stock-Market Bubble.

Earlier today, I
announced, via email, the following:
Good morning, Econ 421 class.
Several items:
1. First, tomorrow we shall have
cold calls on questions from Chapter 21 and, perhaps, Chapter 7.
I will also take a few minutes to finish Chapter 21, Item 8 of the
Reading List.
2. Next, tomorrow, we shall do
all of Item 9, of the Reading List, the Money Supply Process.
3. Third, as I said in the
beginning of the course and repeated later, Econ 301 (or Econ 401) is a
prerequisite for this course. It is specially important for the
second test (also the final.) I recommended that you refresh your
memory by reading chapters 24, 25 and 26 of the book, and, especially,
listen to Karma's Narrated Presentations, mentioned in Item 12 of the
Reading List and accessed from my Web site (at the end, )
If you have not done so, I recommend
that you do this refreshing; if you have, it would be good to repeat
listening. You can access the NARRATED PRESENTATIONS from Essential
Links.
