Introduction

The department offers a Certificate in Quantitative Managerial Economics to qualified undergraduates. The purpose of this certificate is to offer students in economics a more advanced and a high quality preparation for the business world within a specific discipline: economics. It could also appeal to students interested in a career in government. Moreover this new certificate will give a strong background to students who are planning to do graduate work in business or in finance. It is an excellent preparation for a MBA or a Public Affairs/Government graduate program.

Requirements

Non-Economics Courses

  1. ACCTG 215, 225
  2. MATH 124, 125, 126 (or MATH 134, 135, 136)

Economics Courses (Two core courses required)

  1. ECON 422: Investment, Capital, and Finance
  2. ECON 482: Econometric Methods

               or

    ECON 483: Applied Econometric Modeling

Electives: Two additional courses, each chosen from a separate list.

Non-Quantitative (Choose 1 course from the following list)

  • ECON 403: Economics of Property Rights
  • ECON 404: Industrial Organization and Price Analysis
  • ECON 421: Money, Credit and the Economy
  • ECON 423: Topics in Financial Economics
  • ECON 431: Government and Business
  • ECON 444: Topics Labor Market Analysis
  • ECON 450: Public Finance - Expenditure Policy
  • ECON 451: Public Finance - Tax Policy
  • ECON 464: Financial Crisis
  • ECON 472: International Macro/Finance

Quantitative (Choose 1 course from the following list)

  • ECON 400: Advanced Topics in Microeconomics
  • ECON 401: Advanced Topics in Macroeconomics
  • ECON 424: Computational Finance & Financial Econometrics
  • ECON 454: Cost Benefit Analysis
  • ECON 482: Econometric Methods
  • ECON 483: Applied Econometric Modeling
  • ECON 485: Game Theory with Applications to Economics
  • ECON 486: Economics of Information
  • A STAT course from the following list: STAT 341, 342, 390

Minimum Grade Requirement

Students must earn a minimum g.p.a. of 3.4 for the four economics courses. (One course could be a STAT course from the quantitative list.)
