Introduction

The departmental Certificate in International Economics is awarded to qualifying undergraduate majors with a "field of concentration" in international economics.

Requirements

To qualify for the certificate, students must complete the two international theory courses as follows:

  1. ECON 471 - International Trade
  2. ECON 472 - International Macroeconomics

and two courses chosen from the following list:

  • ECON 448 - Population Economics
  • ECON 473 - Topics in International Trade
  • ECON 475 - Economics of the European Union
  • ECON 490 - Comparative Economic Systems
  • ECON 491 - Economic Development
  • ECON 492 - Economics of Latin America
  • ECON 495 - Economic Transformation of Russia and Eastern Europe

Students must earn minimum grades of 2.8 in both ECON 471 and ECON 472, and must average no less than 2.8 for all four classes.
It is expected that any new international economics course introduced by the department, as well as occasional seminars in international economics, will be approved for inclusion in this certificate list. Consequently, ECON 406 - Undergraduate Seminar in Economics may in some cases qualify for the certificate.
