Admission Procedures and Forms


NOTE: The statement of purpose, supplemental application form, and designation of recommenders can now be completed as part of the online application. The statement of purpose and supplemental application form do not need to be mailed to the department if they have already been submitted online.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION PROCEDURES CAREFULLY

I. Application for Admission to the Graduate School

Applications for graduate study must be submitted online. To begin an application, use this link: Web Application.

 

II. Application Fee

The application is $50. Please note that in order to use the Web application, you must pay the fee online using a MasterCard or Visa card. Both credit and debit cards are accepted.

III. Supplemental Application for the Department of Economics

The supplemental application form can be completed as part of the online application as a "fillable" pdf form. We prefer that you use this method. However, if you are not able to complete the pdf online, you can download the pdf form below, print it out, and then send the completed form by mail to the Economics Department.

IV. Official GRE scores

Request that the Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151 forward your official GRE test scores to the University of Washington using institution code 4854.

GRE scores older than 5 years will not be accepted.

V. Official Transcripts

All applicants: send one copy of your official transcripts and degree statements to the Economics Department.

International applicants only: send one copy of your official transcripts and degree statements to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Domestic applicants only: if you are offered admission and choose to enroll, you should send one official transcript to the Office of Graduate Admissions after the degree has been posted. Graduates of the University of Washington are exempt from this requirement.

VI. Official TOEFLiBT scores

All international applicants/US permanent residents and immigrants seeking funding: request that the Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151 forward your score reports to the University of Washington using institution code 4854. Score reports over two years old are no longer valid.

 

An official TOEFLiBT score is required for admission.

Using the Web Application:

1. Copy of Graduate School Application, signed and dated (original signature). This is in addition to completing the online application.

2. Official transcripts and degree statements.

3. Official TOEFLiBT scores. Request Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151 forward your score reports to the Office of Graduate Admissions using institution code #4854. Score reports over two years old are no longer valid.

 

DOMESTIC APPLICANTS ONLY
( includes US citizens, permanent residents, and immigrants)

Using the Web Application:

You do not need to mail any materials to Graduate Admissions if you submit your application and pay the application fee on-line, unless you have earned a bachelor's or higher degree from an institution outside the United States. If so, then you must print a copy of the application (in addition to completing the online application) and send it, together with an official copy of the transcript and degree statement to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
